return of the chun glaze

8:22am Wed. November 22nd

using ash as a component of the chun glaze means that it is subject to the vagaries of the changing nature of different batches of ash: lately it has been a bit \'off\' due to the fireplace ash I had available. I have now removed the ash and replaced it with a Saponite clay (fusible with an analysis not dissimilar to softwood ashes) and the result has been excellent

UK Exhibition

11:20am Mon. May 1st

Autumn in Wentworth Falls....fresh back from bonny Britain, where my exhibition at Alpha House Gallery in Sherborne was a great success. It\'s very encouraging to have sold most of the work shipped over for the show, and to have received such positive feedback...it\'s nice that the pots were so well appreciated, and we could have a great holiday in tandem!

another UK venture coming up next year, when I hope to have a show at the Tunnel Gallery in Tonbridge, Kent

I am showing work in Light Matters, an exhibition at Skepsi on Swanston in Melbourne from 14 June-2 July. The show focuses on ceramic pieces that interact with light - for me, that means translucent porcelain with carved motifs and patterns.
Opened Friday June 17th at 6-8pm. Speaker: Patricia Begg O.A.M.

Lampbases

10:03pm Mon. May 9th

I have been making Lampbases for ara design studio in Paddington. They are ribbed bottles, approx. 40cm. high, and glazed in the Ash glaze and a new \'Sage\' glaze which is a semi-matt dolomite type...
The first lot are curently placed in a new ski lodge in Thredbo. Examples can be seen in the showroom and office of ara design studio
There are now three different glazes on the ribbed bases; ara design studio will have examples in stock in their showroom, including a new fiery red one!
another base added to the family...the \"Kyoto\" base, a large (50cm.)fat rounded base with a white crackle glaze on dark stoneware clay

Forthcoming Exhibitions

9:42pm Wed. February 23rd

Mudgee Wine Festival in September; I will be showing work at the new cellar door of High Valley Wines during the Festival. It will be nice to show my glazes made from local materials - the rock for the green celadon is obtained only a few hundred metres from the cellar door! The other serendipity is that the vineyards are at Dunedoo, at the north end of the Mudgee Wine District, which is where my mother was born, and some remnants of the family still live.
Opening is on Sept. 9th. from 5-8.30 at the High Valley cellar door

and further ahead
2006; I will be having a solo show in the U.K.. back in Dorset. Alpha House Gallery in Sherborne is an excellent little Gallery which sells the work of a lot of studio potters, and enjoys a good reputation as one of the best 'out-of London' galleries.
8 April - 13 May 2006
I showed there previously in 1991 when we lived in Dorset.
