Copper Red

Copper Red is one of the most exotic and flamboyant glazes to have emerged out of the legacy of Chinese ceramics. The glaze has a fascinating history through the last 1000 years, mainly through its association with blood! It has been prized for its livid colour, with corresponding names, 'sacrificial red', 'oxblood red', and numbers of other very descriptive terms: it is also notoriously difficult to achieve, due to the fugitive nature of the copper responsible for the colour.
